I think we can agree that the feeling of summer is here already, and goes on until February. The other day I realised that I haven’t had an actual ‘summer holiday’ since school. A few days or a week up at the Whitsundays doesn’t count.. I’m talking weeks on end of summer.
I’m not a huge fan of the sticky, sweltering heat we get here that gets old fast -when you’re walking from your car to work at 9AM and it’s already 30 degrees; when you bring lunch from home on purpose so you don’t have to go outside in the middle of the day… But I am a fan of being somewhere that offers air conditioning, shade, pools, ocean, boats, boys, tans, coconut scented sunscreen, glorious Sunday Sessions (with no work the next day), drinking those perfectly chilled cocktails, endless music festivals… Yes. I’m talking Gold Coast, during summer, NO WORK.
Every year since 2005 I have been working over summer. And it stops now. I mean sure, I haven’t been ‘working’ for about 4 months but the thought of starting work now seems painful when I could be doing something else.
That something else is full use of an amazing apartment at Rivage Royale (Southport, looking out over the Nerang river, Southport bridge and broadwater) for a couple of months. It’s going out on the boat whenever we feel like it, because tanning on the front of a boat is way better than by a pool, we all know it!
So instead of getting a boring job, I’m going to spend quality time at the Gold Coast with gorgeous friends in a perfect apartment, tanning daily, going to the building’s gym daily, going out on boats, going to the beach, and enjoy what the Coast has to offer for the first time since I was 19 and going to Surfers was considered ‘fun’.
Sunday Sessions will be of the highest importance. As will gym and tanning sessions. And learning how to do some kind of water sport. Using jet skis as a perfectly sensible mode of transport.
So fuck working, I’m going to enjoy my summer like I should have years ago.
Starting in 2 weeks time, I’m going to help launch a new burlesque night starting on the Coast. Then after that, it’s Indy/ Gold Coast 600 (does anyone actually call it Gold Coast 600?) and then let the Summer Sundays and warm water continue until I’m as brown as a chicko baby.
And while I’m there, battling it out all in the name of blog research… I’ll see if there is actually any decent spots on the coast that are Brisbane-people worthy. I’m told Temple has a decent Sunday Session so I’ll check that out, along with the entire brand new Hilton hotel center. There’s a good bar there apparently.. And whatever else takes my fancy!
Tanning, jet skis,...homogenised routine deserving of capitalisation, tanning, drinking...
